How to use Mojo's mobile app

Your guide to getting the most out of Mojo's mobile app.

We’ve built a fantastic mobile app that helps you understand how much energy you’re using, how much it is costing, and even help figure out what specific appliances are costing you via the ENERGY tab.

We’ve also built advanced solar monitoring features right into the app so that you can see how your solar is performing and take action to get the most out of your solar investment.

And for those without solar, we’ve built a sophisticated solar modelling tool that lets you see what solar could do for you.

If you have Mojo’s smart meter then you’ll be able to get the most out of Mojo’s mobile app. If you don’t have Mojo’s smart meter you will experience a limited set of functionality in this app.

Mojo-App-Home (1)The length of the yellow line around the large black circle indicates how far through your monthly billing cycle you are. The dollar value in the large yellow font in the circle tells you how much you’ve incurred for your electricity usage so far in the monthly billing cycle. You’ll also see a comparison against the same time in the prior monthly billing cycle directly underneath this.

The amount under the light bulb underneath the circle is an estimate of your bill for the monthly billing cycle ending on the date indicated.

You can view your costs for the current week by tapping the WEEK button. Weeks run from Sunday to Saturday. You’ll notice the dollar figures change as they now show the costs incurred so far this week, the costs incurred at the same time in the prior week, and a forecast of total costs for the week.

All these calculations include usage costs for the respective period, daily supply charges, any solar credits and Annual EnergyPass® credits (if applicable) but exclude GST.

Finally, you’ll notice three other icons on the Home screen that we’ll briefly mention now but explain in more depth below:

  • At the top left of the screen is the ‘hamburger’ icon represented by the three horizontal stripes. Tapping the hamburger icon reveals a menu with a bunch of additional features, including Details, My Alerts, Notifications, etc.
  • At the top right of the screen is a little gift icon. This takes you to the Refer a Friend screen.
  • The yellow light bulb at the bottom right of the black circle reveals Mojo Tips – little bits of help and guidance for you throughout the app.

You can access the ENERGY screen by tapping the icon of a lightning bolt in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. This screen shows you your actual electricity usage in kilowatt hours (kWh) for a selected day, month, or year. These various views can be selected by tapping the Day, Month, or Year button below the chart.

By default, the Day view is active when you first view the Energy screen, and the active day defaults to the last full day for which energy usage data was available. The bars in the chart show your energy usage for each hour of the day, from midnight to midnight of the selected day.

If you tap the Month button below the chart, the view will display the relevant month with the bars representing the quantity of electricity consumed each day. Likewise, if you tap the Year button, the view will display the relevant year with the bars representing the quantity of electricity consumed each month. You can select different days, months, or years, as the case may be, by using the left and right arrows.

For homes without solar, you will just see grey bars with the height of each bar representing the quantity of electricity consumed from the grid for each period. You can tap each bar to see exactly how much electricity was consumed in the selected period. Simply tap outside of the chart area to make the pop-up disappear.

If your home has solar, you will see the usual grey bars plus white bars and blue bars. The white bars represent how much of your solar production was consumed in your home, and the blue bars represent how much of your solar production was exported to the grid.

The sum of the white and grey bars represents the total amount of electricity used in your home, with solar providing the white portion, and the grid providing the grey portion.

The blue bars represent the amount of your solar production that was not used in your home but sent back to the grid (known as “exports”). Although you receive a feed-in tariff for this exported energy, it is almost always worth more to you if you use it in your home than if you export it. In the image above, you can see that this home’s energy consumption was low during the day, yet solar was performing well with most of the solar production exported to the grid. If this house had a swimming pool it would have been worth running the pool during the middle of the day to soak up this solar production.

If you know that your home has solar but you don’t see any white or blue bars it may indicate that your system was not working. Use the left and right arrows to select other days to see whether there was a particular day that your system appeared to stop working. You should also send us an email ( to let us know as we can check the data flows on our end to ensure that your meter is configured correctly. If you suspect that your system is not working you may also check the display on your inverter (if it has a display) or contact your solar installer to come over to check on the system.

We are experiencing technical issues with the RealTime functionality and working with the meter providers to get the functionality working again for those who have a compatible smart meter.

If you have a compatible smart meter, you can access the real-time feature screen by tapping the heart icon in the navigation menu at the bottom of the screen.Mojo-App-RealTime

RealTime monitoring of your energy usage via your smart meter is an innovative feature pioneered by Mojo together with our metering partners. With no additional hardware, other than your compatible smart meter, we can provide you with live energy* information and insights generally only available with third-party energy monitoring equipment that can cost hundreds of dollars.

When you first visit this screen, you’ll be presented with a blank chart with a yellow “play” button below it. Tap the play button to start RealTime monitoring. This will tell your smart meter to start reporting data in real-time. Once the connection to your meter has been established you’ll see a blue line appear and every few seconds or so a new blue dot will appear indicating the latest power reading (in kilowatts or kW). The chart effectively scrolls from left to right with older readings on the left and new readings on the right. The grey bubble above the chart indicates the net power usage of your home right now (or the last available reading if paused or if the connection has been lost). The yellow bubble likewise tells you the current usage cost (ex GST) in dollars per hour. This is effectively the power consumption multiplied by your energy rate. For homes on time-of-use tariffs, this will consider the relevant time-period such as peak, shoulder, and off-peak.

Many of our customers use this RealTime feature to learn about their home’s energy consumption and take control of their energy costs. For example, you could start out by turning off any appliances that you do not need to run constantly, such as lights, air conditioners, and pool pumps. Now enable the RealTime monitoring to get a sense of your base level of energy consumption. Then turn on your appliances one by one, each time noting the increase in power consumption via the Mojo App. This will give you useful information about what your appliances are costing you when they’re running and may give you some ideas on how to save on your energy costs.

*The Real-time data access feature requires a compatible smart meter and is dependent on the mobile signal strength at the given time in your area. An intermittent connection can occur during signal strengths varying within your location. If your smart meter is not compatible, Real-time may not be available to you.

Information is based on actual usage data where possible, but in some circumstances estimated data may be used. EnergyPass, GST, credits and rebates are not included.

You can access the SOLAR screen by tapping the icon of a sun in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. This solar screen may be useful whether you have solar installed already or if you are considering getting solar.

Rooftop solar PV systems produce energy that you can use directly in your home. When a solar PV system is generating electricity, this replaces what would have come from the grid. At any moment in time, your solar generation could be less than, or more than, what you need to power your home. When solar is producing less than what you need, all of your solar generation is used in your home and the balance of your consumption is imported from the grid. When solar is producing more than what you need, some of your solar generation is used in your home, and the balance of your solar energy is exported to the grid.

The solar energy and savings calculations you see on this screen are annualised calculations based on up-to-the last 6 months’ energy usage data for your household and the performance of your solar PV system over the same period.

If you have a gross and net meter setup (two meters, one for the net grid consumption, and the other to measure just your solar production) then we can monitor your solar accurately and independently of the grid. If you don’t have this setup then the app prompts you to answer a few questions about your solar system so that we can estimate its performance and contribution to your home’s observed electricity consumption. If you’re not sure what kind of metering setup you have or would like to know more, just email us at and we can look up your account and advise you.

The chart shows the average hourly values of grid imports (grey bars), solar exports (blue bars) and the solar generation that was self-consumed (white bars).

The numbers in the bubbles at the top highlight some key performance calculations for your solar system:

  • The % grid free is the percentage of your household electricity needs that are met by your solar PV system.
  • The % solar used is the percentage of your solar PV output that is used in your home, with the remainder being exported to the grid.
  • The $ p.a. saved is an estimated annual savings of Mojo electricity usage charges from your solar PV system (this does not include the costs associated with the installation and maintenance of your system).

If you don’t have solar then you can use Mojo’s solar simulator to get an idea of what savings may be achievable with a well-designed solar PV system.

The slider below the chart lets you pick a system size ranging from a small 1 kW system (approx. 3 or 4 panels) right up to a mammoth 15 kW system (approx. 45 to 60 panels). Using the slider, look at the impact that different size solar systems could have on how solar could support your household electricity consumption, and the savings that may eventuate.

Note that this is a theoretical simulation and assumes that a solar PV system of the size selected can be physically installed at your home. It also uses an average solar profile that may or may not reflect the actual availability of solar energy to your house’s roof.

If you are interested in learning more or would like us to put you in touch with one of our trusted solar sales and installation companies, let us know and we’d be happy to help.

You can access the BILLING screen by tapping the money icon in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.
